Organic package of practices for Black gram, Green gram, Banana and Chilli
Problem / Need addressed by the technology The technology is low cost and based on the locally available raw materials. This technology aids in the decrease of input costs, helps farmers to manage pests and diseases without pesticides and fetches a better market price for the produce that is organic. In addition, the technology is 100% organic and eco-friendly that results in chemical free environment and produce. Organic package of practices includes all the production aspects from seed to post harvest for the crops specified under the project. Crops like black gram, green gram, chilli and banana have been identified and developed with suitable organic packages after a series of field trials and experiments. The economics – cost of cultivation / acre using these packages are Black gram (Rs. 5,050/-), Green gram (Rs. 4,425/-), Chilli (Rs. 15,000/-) and Banana (Rs. 40,000/-).

Current Status: This technology has been disseminated to 400 master trainers from 20 villages in six blocks in Nagapattinam district. Apart from this, a total of 1237 farmers in six different districts of Tamil Nadu were trained through 338 training programmes. These disseminated technologies were implemented by 405 farmers in 312.93 hectares in 45 villages of Kancheepuram, Thiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram and Dindigul districts. These technologies are being followed by the farmers in regular basis.
